You have goals for this new year, and we have what you need to see them through. Here is your ultimate guide to keeping up the progress you’ve already made long after the ball has dropped.

Millions of your fellow Americans are looking ahead and setting intentions for the new year. Many of them are focusing on their health and wellness. One of the most popular health goals is losing weight; if you’re reading this, you’re in the same boat.

Whether you’ve already started your weight loss journey and seen some results or just starting, you’ve come to the right place.

Meridith Womick, MD, and the entire team of doctors and health coaches at the Metabolic Medical Center are here to support you every step of the way.

The best thing you can do is see us for our extensive weight loss services, but to get you started, here are a few simple strategies you can take with you into the new year.

1. Know the basics

Remember that the formula for weight loss is generally simple: more physical activity + fewer calories  = weight loss. There are exceptions to this rule, including hormone imbalances and other underlying health issues that delay weight loss.

But we bring it up so you don’t get sucked into fad diets and excessive workout plans that restrict whole food groups and dangerously slash your calorie intake.

Our health coaches don’t buy into what’s popular. Instead, we do what we know will work for you.

2. Take things slow

If this isn’t your first time losing weight, then you know what can happen if you bite off more than you can chew.

Your lofty goal of losing 30 pounds in a year is excellent motivation, but remember that you’ll only get there by making small steps.

Your diet is one of the best examples. Eating a balanced diet is crucial to weight loss, but changing your diet takes time. So, if your habit is to eat out four or five times a week, start by eliminating one fast-food dinner each week until you’re only in the drive-thru once a week.

3. Use the buddy system

Losing weight alone is much harder than losing weight with support. We strongly encourage you to enlist the help of trusted friends and family to keep you accountable and motivated. We also offer comprehensive health coaching and personal training services to help you reach your goals.

4. Celebrate the wins, big and small

Did you make a healthy choice in the face of temptation? Did you cross a weight loss threshold? Take time to celebrate your wins, and consider keeping a journal of your progress you can look back on when you hit a plateau.

5. Face the facts

Setbacks are a matter of when not if. Don’t be discouraged when your progress slows, or you have a few bad food days in a row. Setbacks aren’t failures but opportunities to renew your focus and restart.

Keep in touch with your health coaches, trainers, and accountability partners to smooth out those bumps in the road.

6. Consider your environment

Think about your home, your car, your office — are they conducive to weight loss, or are they filled with temptations? Make weight loss easier on yourself and stock your spaces with healthy snacks and reminders of your goals rather than things that can throw you off course.

7. Remember, we’re here for you
